Review of Georgia's agriculture statistics in 1Q2020

The number of bovine animals increased by 1.9 percent at the end of the first quarter of 2020 compared to the first quarter of 2019 and reached 973,500 heads in Georgia, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The total number of dairy cows and buffaloes has increased by 1.5 percent since the same period of the previous year and equaled 461,400 heads.

In the reporting period, the total number of sheep and goats went down by 4 percent and amounted to 1.1 million heads.

The number of pigs equaled to 168,300 heads, which is 3.7 percent less than at the same period of the previous year.

The number of poultry increased by 28.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 10.3 million heads.

As reported, in the first quarter of 2020, milk production increased by 5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 107 million litres.

Meat production decreased by 0.6 percent from the same period of the previous year and equaled 16,200 tons.

In the reporting period, egg production amounted to 160.4 million pieces which is 0.6 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.
