Iran discloses value of agricultural exports

Iran exported about 680,000 tons of agricultural products worth $236 million in the first month of the current Iranian year (March 20-April 19, 2020), said Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran Shahrokh Shajari said, Trend reports citing the Ministry’s official website.

According to Shajari, the exports increased by 25.85 percent in terms of weight and decreased by 9.13 percent in terms of value compared to the same month last Iranian year.

Shajari added that the in terms of weight, most exported agricultural products were watermelons (117,000 tons), tomatoes (84,000 tons), apples (76,000 tons), oranges (34,000 tons) and cucumbers (21,000 tons).

The deputy minister said that in terms of value, the most exported products were tomatoes ($38 million), apples ($29 million), watermelons ($25 million), tomatoes ($14 million) and oranges ($11 million).

"Total exports amounted to 448,000 tons of crops worth $155 million and 170,000 tons of horticultural products worth $113 million," he said.

Shajari added that in the first month, 2.07 million tons of agricultural products worth $831 million were imported to Iran.

According to the deputy minister, the imported products in terms of weight were mainly, wheat (692,000 tons), corn feed (430,000 tons), compressed soybean (269,000 tons), soybean seeds (179,000), rice (104,000 tons).

“The imported products in terms of value were mainly, wheat ($191 million), compressed soybean ($107 million), corn feed ($105 million), rice ($89 million) and soybean seeds ($79 million).

Iran exported about 7.1 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $5.82 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). At the same time, 6.94 million tons of food and agricultural products worth $6.39 billion were imported.
