Azerbaijan sees growth in metallurgical production

The production volume of raw materials in Azerbaijani metallurgical industry amounted to 168.8 million manat ($99.2 million) from January through May 2020, which is 2.2 times more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports referring to the country's State Statistical Committee.

The production of finished metal products increased by 7.4 percent, amounting to 103.8 million manat ($61 million), while the gross production amounted to 272.6 million manat ($160.3 million).

In total, 99,800 tons of steel were smelted in Azerbaijan from January through May 2020, showing a decrease of 32.2 percent. Production of fittings dropped by 20.5 percent, amounting to 97,700 tons. Production of steel pipes reached 11,700 tons, increasing by 2.3 times.

The production of primary alloys of unprocessed aluminum decreased by 10.5 percent to 14,500 tons.

The value of prefabricated building structures made of ferrous metals reached 9.3 million manat ($5.4 million), growing by 1.6 percent. The production of other structures made of ferrous metals increased by 2.6 times, reaching over 13,600 tons. The production of flexible wires, cables and non-insulated cables from copper grew by 1.8 times to 2,600 tons.

Production of raw materials in the Azerbaijani metallurgical industry dropped by 20 percent from January through December 2019 compared to the same period in 2018, amounting to 763.5 million manat ($449.1 million).

Nevertheless, the production of finished metal products increased by 82.4 percent, amounting to 214.6 million manat ($126.2 million). An increase by 35.5 percent was recorded throughout the industry, and the total gross production amounted to 901.4 million manat ($530.2 million).
