BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16
By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:
Azerbaijani Association of Manufacturers of Building Materials intends to increase the production volume by 80 percent, Chairman of the association Elkhan Bashirov told Trend on June 16.
“In the coming years, it’s planned to expand the geography of exports of the building materials and obtain access to new markets. Currently, the foreign countries mainly consuming our products are Georgia and Russia,” he said.
He also pointed out that since early 2020, the highest demand among the foreign consumers was for glass, parquet and façade materials.
According to Bashirov, nearly 30 percent of the cost of building materials accounts for rail, road and sea transportation costs.
“For improving situation in the local construction sector, transportation costs should make up a maximum of 5 percent of the production cost, after which growth in the export volume of the building materials can be expected," the chairman said.
Bashirov also noted decrease of domestic demand for the materials in the 1st quarter of 2020, which can be explained by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Association of Manufacturers of Building Materials of Azerbaijan was established in 2017 as a part of systematic reforms carried out in order to ensure the development of entrepreneurship in the country.
