On the eve of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, 448 facilities were commissioned in 22 provinces of Iran, Minister of Agriculture Jihad Karim Khavazi said, Trend reports with reference to Iran's Forests, Range, and Watershed Management Organization.
Following the commissioning of the facilities, about 127,000 hectares of arid lands will become usable.
Khavazi added that more than 7.5 trillion rials (about $178 million) have been spent on the construction of these facilities.
The ceremony of commissioning of the facilities was carried out via a video conference.
June 17 is World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is celebrated on June 17.
In Iran, June 10-17 is celebrated as Agriculture Week.
