BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22

By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

The domestic sales of persimmon in Azerbaijan have increased since May 2020, Chairman of the Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan Gadir Yusifov told Trend.

According to him, in the reporting month the sales more than doubled, compared to May 2019, while 20,367 tons of persimmons were sold on the domestic market of the country from January through December last year.

“Demand for this product has grown significantly, but prices have remained unchanged,” he said.

Touching upon the product’s export, Yusifov noted that in 2020 it’s planned to deliver persimmons to Slovakia, Czechia and some other European countries.

“Azerbaijan exported first batch of persimmons to the UAE in May 2020. The revenues amounted to 100,000 manat [$58,820],” he Yusifov said, adding that a second batch is scheduled for delivery to the UAE in late June.

“Last year, several thousand persimmon seedlings were planted. This year we plan to improve the quality and increase the volumes of the produced persimmons,” he said.

The Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan was created in August 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Ministry of Economy.

The main objectives of the association are to increase the production of competitive and export-oriented products, as well as increase persimmon exports. Income from exports in 2019 significantly exceeded revenues for 2018, amounting to $114 million.
