Uzbekistan has begun exporting peanuts to China for the first time, Trend reports referring to the local Podrobno.uz news agency.

The Uzbek Global Export Company in May 2020 began exporting peanuts to China which is a new market for the country. The deliveries in the amount of $1 million were made under a contract with a big Chinese distribution company.

This became possible following the signing of the Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for the export of Uzbek peanuts to China between Uzgoskarantin and the Central Customs Office of China with the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China in November 2019.

Moreover, with the active participation of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in 2017-2019, a set of issues was worked out to increase the range of Uzbek agricultural supplies to China. As a result, interdepartmental protocols on phytosanitary requirements were signed, which allowed to ramp up exports to China by 14 products, including fresh sweet cherries, melons, hot peppers, pomegranates, mung beans, sesame seeds, raisins, dried apricots, walnuts, salty and sweet apricot kernels, grape seeds, peanuts and natural honey.

China is the world's largest producer of peanuts, as well as its importer. For example, in 2019, the volume of Chinese imports of peeled peanuts amounted to 405,000 tons worth $285 million. The main suppliers were African countries such as Senegal, Ethiopia, Sudan, as well as India and the United States. From now on, Uzbekistan has joined the list of countries exporting peanut to China.
