New grant program offered to farmers in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 9

Farmers in Georgia will have the opportunity to obtain co-financing under a 2-million lari ($655,853) grant program offered by the European Union (EU), the Agriculture Ministry of Georgia and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for the purchase and installation of modern drip irrigation systems, Trend reports referring to the ministry.

At this stage, 35 applications have been submitted for the grant competition and won the grant.

Among the beneficiaries who received the grant this time are farmers who purchased and installed drip irrigation systems as part of the COVID-19 response program, in addition to 24 beneficiaries who received about $50,000 in funding to purchase agricultural machinery.

In total, 18 million lari ($5.9 million) is allocated for the competition under the grant program to be implemented in several stages.

The first stage has already come to an end at the beginning of the year, during which 2.2 million lari ($721,438) grant was issued to the farmers.
