Iran reveals volume of cargo loaded via Arak railway

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 12

About 265,700 tons of cargo was loaded and transported to various provinces of Iran via railways of the Arak county in Markazi Province during the three months of the current Iranian year (March 20-June 20, 2020), said Mohammad Reza Ghorbani, Director General of the Arak County Railway Department, Trend reports citing Iran's Railways Company’s official website.

Ghorbani stressed that despite the spread of the coronavirus, the volume of products transported by this railway increased by 15 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

He added that 98,000 tons of cargo was unloaded via the railway stations of the province. This is an increase of 211 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year (32,000 tons).

"Over 3 months, more than 261 million ton-kilometers of products (net weight) and 499 million ton-kilometers of products (gross weight) were transported via the Arak railway. This is an increase of 36 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year," he said.

Ghorbani said that the Shazand Oil Refining Company has started transporting low-sulfur mazut to the Bandar Abbas port by this railway.

The director general noted that so far, 31,000 tons of low-sulfur mazut has been transported to Bandar Abbas port by the Arak railway.
