Geostat: External merchandise trade declines in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 13

External Merchandise Trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $5.07 billion from January through June 2020, Trend reports via the National Statistic Office of Georgia (Geostat).

This is 16.3 percent lower year-on-year, said Geostat.

The value of export decreased by 15.6 percent reaching $1.50 billion, while the import decreased by 16.5 percent and amounted to $3.56 billion.

The trade deficit equaled $2.06 billion and its share in trade turnover constituted 40.7 percent.

External merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $4.20 billion from January through May 2020, 16.8 percent lower year-on-year.

In the first five months of 2020, the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 77.2 percent. The top partners were China ($168.4 million), Azerbaijan ($167.4 million) and Russia ($157.1 million).
