Uzbekistan takes additional measures to develop wine industry

The government of Uzbekistan has issued a decree to improve the system of management in the sphere of production and regulation of alcohol and tobacco products in the country, Trend reports with reference to information-legal portal Norma.uz.

The Agency for Regulation of Alcohol and Tobacco Market and Wine Industry Development and the Wine Industry Development Fund were established in accordance with decree.

Among the main objectives of the Agency is to maintain a unified state policy in the production and sale of ethyl alcohol, alcohol and tobacco products, wine industry, as well as implementation of integrated programs aimed at the development of the industry.

According to the decree, from August 1, 2020, permits for retail sale of alcoholic products, as well as the right to sell alcoholic beverages by public catering enterprises are issued for an indefinite period.

Also, natural wine products (except for packaged ones), sold by producers in tasting zones (places), organized on tourist routes, are subject to excise tax at zero rate, while the producers are entitled to sell after prepayment of 50 percent of the cost of ethyl alcohol.

Gradually, new requirements are also introduced for vehicles carrying food and technical ethyl alcohol. In particular, from July 1, 2021 such vehicles ust be equipped with an automatic real-time monitoring system (GPS); and from January 1, 2022 - with an electronic counter for recording the volume of production and turnover of food and technical ethyl alcohol, alcoholic and tobacco products, as well as a single register of vineyards.
