Turkmenistan increases volume of silk production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10

The Turkmenabat Silk Production Association increased the volume of silk production during seven months of 2020, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal information portal.

In particular, during the reporting period, the silk association produced 5.2 million square meters of cotton, 182,000 square meters of silk fabrics and 116 square meters of silk carpets.

The growth rate of the silk production was 136.5 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Turkmenistan plans to produce 2,100 tons of raw silkworm cocoons in 2020.

In particular, it is planned to produce 155 tons in Ahal province, 25 tons - in Balkan province, 500 tons - in Dashoguz province, 1,010 tons - in Lebap province, 410 tons - in Mary province.

Sericulture may become one of the key sectors of the local agricultural industry and may cover the entire country except the western regions, said the report.

More than half of cocoons accounts for Lebap province.

Ashgabat silk factory and Turkmenabat Silk Production Association are among the leading silk producing enterprises in the country.
