Germany, UK to persuade US to temporary lift sanctions against Iran

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug, 11

Trend:

Germany and the UK have proposed a plan to Washington to temporarily lift the sanctions against Iran and mediate to begin Iran-US new round of the talks within 10 days, a diplomatic source told Iranian Labor News Agency, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Last week, a Lebanese media outlet claimed that in the three months before to the US president election, Tehran and Washington are on the verge of a new round of talks.

Lebanese Elnashra news website quoted the unnamed diplomatic sources as saying that the US-Iran talks were going on and that the German government was playing a mediating role in the process.

The source revealed that after the US proposal to impose an arms embargo against Iran and direct oversight of the Iran nuclear program outside the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Germany and Britain have stated they believe it will have a negative impact on Iran's behavior.

“Germany, with the support of the United Kingdom, has proposed that the United States, as a first step, temporarily lift sanctions, which have the greatest economic impact on the lives of the Iranian people,” the source said adding that the starting point is that Iran also evaluates the steps taken in recent months on its nuclear program that is reducing its commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

"As far as I know, Washington's assessment of this proposal will be announced within next 10 days," the source said. "According to some rumors, the UN Security Council's assessment of the escalation of arms sanctions on Iran is not positive.”
