BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 11
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia-made olive oil has replaced 22 percent of imports, said Giorgi Svanidze, founder of the Georgian Olive Company, Trend reports via Georgian media.
These indicators will exceed 30 percent in the near future, he noted.
“Many years ago, we launched the olive business in Georgia, and at that time, the country fully depended on imports. Gradually, we managed to replace the imports by 22 percent”, Svanidze noted.
The company will buy olives from about 200 farmers in the nearest future.
“The number of supplying framers grows every year. We buy supplies from 500 kg to 8-10 tons too. Actually, we are ready to buy any volume of olive”, Svanidze noted.
Georgia became a member of the International Olive Council in 2019. In the same year, the country was officially named the President of the International Olive Council for 2020.
