Georgian wine and cheese producing company Butrana plans to expand the assortment of cheese and start production Italian Mozzarella and Gouda cheese, Trend reports via Georgian media.

"We plan to add several well-known varieties of cheese, which will be sold in hypermarkets, Goodwill and Carrefour in addition to hotels and specialized stores. We hope, that we will not only compete with imported products but also gradually replace them. The raw material with which we produce cheese is from Butrana farm. For example, in preparing of the aged cheese, we use Saperavi(the type of a grape) from our vineyards," noted the founder of company Jemal Khatiashvili.

As he noted, Butrana decided to expand the assortment and build a new farm in September.

"The demand from the customers is pretty high. Our motivation is to offer them new, natural, and diverse varieties of cheese. Mozzarella and Gouda will be targeting middle and high price segments. For example, we estimate the price of Mozzarella will be around 22-23 lari ($7.18-$7.51). At the initial stage, we want to fully cover the Georgian market. Then, when Georgian dairy products will be allowed to be imported to the EU, we plan to export our products," stated Khatiashvili.

Butrana is located in the village of Tibaani, in the region of Sighnaghi, Georgia. The company produces wine and more than 20 varieties of cheese.
