Georgia announces changes in 'Produce in Georgia' program

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

To tackle the economic challenges caused by COVID-19, Georgia made some changes to the state program Produce in Georgia, which will now support six new economic activities in the country, Trend reports via Georgian media.

"The changes made to the program increase the agency’s support and its co-financing capacity, which assists the process of tackling the ongoing economic issues in Georgia,” said CEO of Produce in Georgia Agency, Mikheil Khidureli, which implements the same name program.

The six new economic activities are the creation of computer games, hospital activities, general medical practice activities, specialized medical practice activities, dental practice activities, purchase, and leasing of film production equipment.

As part of the new changes made to the program, business owners are no longer required to own land to receive loan co-financing but instead will be able to build a hotel on lands which they possess temporarily. The same conditions apply to the balneological resort industry.

Business owners who do not own real estate but have the capacity to pay rent, lease, or obtain real estate utilization license, will now be able to partake in the Produce in Georgia program.

The amendments will apply to the tourism sector as well. While earlier the Produce in Georgia used to assist the tourism industry in 14 locations across the country, now following the new changes, the above-mentioned restriction will be annulled, allowing the agency to cooperate with the sector in all parts of Georgia.

"Due to the increased number of requests which have been submitted through the Produce in Georgia hotline, removing location restrictions has become necessary not only for the hospitality industry but for the tourism services connected to it as well", reads the press release published by the agency.

From August 28, with the support of Produce in Georgia, business owners all over Georgia will have the opportunity to develop projects such as theme parks, ethnographic parks, wake parks, and adventure tourism attractions.

Since 2014, Produce in Georgia has supported about 12,000 beneficiaries in starting and expanding businesses.
