Purchasing of wheat in Iran’s Lorestan Province continues

The purchasing of wheat from farmers in the Lorestan Province (western Iran) will continue until October 6, Director General of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Lorestan Province Hojjat Biranvand said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to the director-general, more than 286,750 tons of wheat has been purchased from farmers in the province from May 21 to September 2, 2020.

Biranvand added that the value of purchased wheat was more than 7.2 trillion rials (about $171 million).

He emphasized that more than 6 trillion rials (about $142 million) have been paid to farmers, so far.

The director-general noted that also, 2,900 tons of rapeseed was purchased in the province.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

Several products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
