Wine production and export increase in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.3

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In 2012, Georgia exported about 20 million bottles of wine, in 2020 - 100 million bottles, 5 times more, said the Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to the minister, wine production in Georgia has grown in recent years.

“Today we are talking of growing about 300,000 tons of grapes, while 50,000 tons of grapes were processed industrially. These figures clearly show that our policy is consistent,” the minister said, adding that most of Georgia's wine, over 80 percent, is exported.

"In general, Georgia focuses on export products, because we are a small country and we have a small domestic market. Additionally, the reduction in tourist flows in the domestic market affected and complicated the situation for wine companies. We did our best to ensure that the wine harvest this year was rich, and we appreciate the hard work of farmers. In the coming years, of course, we will continue to work systematically," said Davitashvili.
