Rouhani: Large quantities of goods exported from Iran's free trade and special economic zones

The goods worth $134 billion were exported from Iran's free trade and special economic zones over 7 years (from March 21, 2013, to March 20, 2020), Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, Trend reports citing Iranian President Office’s official website.

He made the remark at an event dedicated to the commissioning of 58 facilities in Iran’s free trade and special economic zones.

According to the president, the export of goods at this value from these zones is a big step.

Rouhani added that the governors of Iranian provinces, heads of free trade and special economic zones must take all steps to facilitate investment in the zones.

"The activation of the country's economic investment during the sanctions period is a necessary step," he said.

On September 10, twelve facilities were commissioned in the Aras Free Trade and Industrial Zone, 11 in the Kish Free Trade Zone, 14 in the Qeshm Free Trade Zone, and 21 in the Payam, Sarakhs, Shiraz, Kaveh, and Yazd Special Economic Zones.
A total of 48 trillion rials (about $ 1.14 billion), 437 million euros, and $4.4 million has been invested in the construction and commissioning of these facilities.

The US imposed new sanctions on Iran in November 2018. Over the past period, the sanctions affected Iranian oil exports, more than 700 banks, companies, and individuals.

The volume of foreign investment attracted in Iran's free trade and special economic zones amounted to $211 million, and the volume of attracted domestic investment amounted to 107 billion rials (about $2.56 million) in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).
