By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

The UK’s Central Asia Metals PLC copper extracting company has produced 3,883 tons of copper over 3Q2020 bringing the overall nine months production to 10,490 tons at its Kazakhstan-based mine, Trend reports citing the company.

The total Kounrad copper production since operations commenced in 2012 is now 106,735 tons.

“With less than three months until the end of the year, the Company is increasing its 2020 copper production guidance from between 12,500 tons and 13,500 tons to between 13,500 tons and 14,000 tons. This is due to a higher contribution from the Eastern Dumps, as pick-up grades have been better than were projected in the initial annual production plan forecasts,” the company said.

Copper sales during 3Q2020 were 3,988 tons, bringing the total for the first nine months of the year to 10,588 tons.

"We are delighted to be able to announce an increase in our Kounrad copper production guidance, despite the changes in operating procedures due to COVID-19. There are currently zero Kounrad employees who are positive for COVID-19. All previously stated COVID-19 related health measures remain in place at the sites,” the company said.

Central Asia Metals PLC copper is the sole owner and operator of the solvent extraction–electrowinning copper recovery plant at the Kounrad mine site, near the city of Balkhash in central Kazakhstan.

The facility recovers copper from waste dumps (Eastern and Western dumps) that originated from the Kounrad open-pit copper mine.

Central Asia Metals PLC is a UK-based copper, zinc and lead production and exploration company, with operations in Kazakhstan and North Macedonia.
