Volume of cotton fields in Iran increased

The volume of cotton fields in Iran has been increased by 10 percent in the current planting year in Iran (from September 22, 2020, to September 23, 2021) compared to last planting year, said Director-General of the Department of Cotton, Oilseeds and Industrial Products of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Ebrahim Hezarjaribi, Trend reports citing the ministry’s website.

According to Hezarjaribi, the cotton has been planted on 98,800 hectares of land in the current planting year. However, this figure amounted to 90,000 hectares of land in the last planting year.

He added that the average cotton harvesting per hectare of land amounted to 2,530 kg in the last planting year. This figure increased by 8 percent in the current planting year to 2.730 kg.

The director-general stressed that the cotton harvesting in the last planting year amounted to 229,000 tons. This figure increased by 18 percent in the current year to 270,000 tons.

"It is forecasted that 120,000 tons of raw cotton will be harvested in this planting year. Thus, out of 120,000 tons of raw cotton, 81,000 tons of cotton will be delivered to the country's textile industry, "Hezarjaribi said.

The director-general also noted that whereas the annual demand of the Iranian textile industry for cotton is 120,000 tons.

Hezarjaribi said that the cotton supplying to Iran's textile industry has increased from 58 percent to 68 percent in the current planting year.
