Iran's Gilan Province boosts olive exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 19

The value of olive exports from the Gilan Province (northern Iran) increased by 34 percent during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through October 21, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, Chairman of Industry, Mine, and Trade Organization of Gilan Province Farhad Dalghpoush said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

“During the reporting period, 129,000 tons of olive worth 28 billion rials (about $666,000) were exported from Gilan Province,” Dalghpoush noted.

The chairman added that Gilan Province accounts for about 11 percent of the olive groves in Iran and about 20 percent of olive production.

He also said that the value of olive produced in Gilan Province amounts to about 1.44 trillion rials (about $34.2 million).

Dalghpoush stressed that there are 9,150 hectares of olive groves in Iran’s Gilan Province.

“About 2,000 people work in olive growing in Gilan Province,” the chairman said.
