Uzbek-Turkish JV eyes increasing production of import-substituting goods

Erkan Machinery Uzbek-Turkish joint venture operating in the Kitab district of the Kashkadarya region in Uzbekistan plans to increase the volume of production of import-substituting goods, Trend reports referring to uza.uz.

This enterprise was established in 2017 by the Turkish company Erkan Makina endustri imalat sanayi ve ticaret Ltd.Sti with a 51 percent share and the domestic Tegirmontazhservice LLC with a 49 percent share.

The main products of the enterprise are modern mills and equipment for the production of animal feed. It is also designed for the production of import-substituting and export-oriented equipment. Erkan Machinery, the only enterprise in Central Asia engaged in the production of this type of equipment, makes it possible to expand the export of products to the countries of Central Asia. The company has created 20 permanent and 25 seasonal jobs.

"The enterprise is working on organizing a modern laboratory for physical and chemical analysis of grain and a training center for retraining and advanced training of process engineers," said the head of the enterprise Alijon Eshkobilov.

Uzbekistan spends annually up to $20 million on the purchase of mills and equipment for the production of animal feed.

"At the first stage, we plan to bring the level of localization to 20 percent, and within five years of operation - to 50 percent. This will allow Uzbekistan to save $10 million in foreign currency annually" Eshkobilov added.

Until recently, this type of equipment was imported from Turkey and other countries. The capacity of Erkan Machinery is an annual production of products in the amount of $2 million, and it is envisaged to supply them to 44 enterprises of the Uzdonmahsulot JSC system. It is also planned to export products to Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan.
