Iranian Aras Free Trade Zone reveals its trade surplus

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov. 27

Iran's Aras Free Zone has enjoyed a trade surplus exceeding $210 million, in the first half of the Iranian year (started on March 20), according to deputy head of Aras Free Zone Organization's for investment and economic affairs Safar Shasfand, Trend reports via IRNA.

“Some $30 million worth of commodities were imported into Iran via Aras Free Zone during the six-month period, while $240 million worth of commodities were exported from the country,” Shasfand said.

He pointed out that the mentioned $240 million worth of goods were exported from the zone to Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, the UAE, the Czech Republic and Uzbekistan since the beginning of the current Iranian year (started on March 20),” he said.

He went on to say that 209 semi-finished production units are under construction in the zone.

“Some 19 production units have been inaugurated in the zone in September, which led to creation of 1,269 jobs,” he said.

“Car manufacturing, construction of 84-hectare greenhouse, creation of 270-hectare mechanized garden, gelatin production plant and construction of phase 2 of steel plant are among the most important investment projects of the zone,” he added.

He announced that in February, 16 new projects with an investment of $213.5 million and direct employment of 405 people will be opened.
