Iran can increase exports through processing industries – economist

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 30

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran can increase its exports and its revenues with the developing of the processing industries in all manufacturing sectors, Iranian expert on energy issues Mehrdad Emadi told Trend.

Emadi noted that the raw materials are currently accounted for Iran’s total exports, however, Iran can obtain more revenues by exporting final products.

He added that the imports of final products to Iran don’t not allow the development of domestic production to a large extent.

The economist also noted that in this context, the increase in Iran's exports will not be great success for the country's economy.

Iran exported 75 million tons of goods worth $21.5 billion during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2020). Iran's exports decreased by 19 percent in terms of value and 14 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

In addition, Iran imported 21.8 million tons of goods worth $23.1 billion within 8 months of current Iranian year.

Iran's imports decreased by 18 percent in terms of value and 1 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
