Uzbekistan, Afghanistan consider expanding co-op in banking, customs spheres

Uzbekistan, Afghanistan considered the prospects for expanding cooperation in the banking and customs spheres, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

The parties discussed issues of trade and economic relations, investment, and regional cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan at a meeting held in the format of video conferencing.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Adham Ikramov, Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Anvar Asamov, as well as representatives of the business community of Uzbekistan.

Afghanistan was represented by the chairman of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce Mohammad Ismail Ghazanfar, Ambassador Ahmad Khalid Elemiy, an adviser to the Ministry of Industry and Trade Muhammad Nabi Hakimiyy, as well as the country's businessmen.

The Uzbek side emphasized the intensification of trade and economic cooperation between the business circles of the two countries in recent years.

In addition, the sides noted that the establishment of an open dialogue made it possible to clearly identify areas of mutual interests for further in-depth interaction, meaning the development of promising projects and agreements between countries.

According to the chamber, the foreign trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan as of October 1 amounted to $611 million, of which $609.5 million fell on export activity and $1.9 million accounts for imports.
