The Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry of Uzbekistan proposed to produce Russian vaccines against coronavirus on the territory of the research and production pharmaceutical cluster Tashkent Pharma Park in the Qibray district of the Tashkent region, Trend reports citing gazeta.uz.
Construction of Tashkent Pharma Park on an area of 43.75 hectares began at the end of January 2020. The cluster will include the Pharmaceutical Technical University with its own infrastructure, as well as an industrial zone. The project worth $191 million is planned to be implemented in 2020-2024.
Director of the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry Sardor Kariev said that a project for the production of immunobiological vaccines, including Russian vaccines against coronavirus, could be implemented in the cluster.
The project cost is estimated at $53 million, and the production capacity amounts to 120 million pieces.
As noted in the presentation of the head of the agency, vaccination in Uzbekistan has been included in the schedule, and tasks for the production of vaccines against COVID-19 have been defined.
Currently, the share of imports of immunobiological vaccines accounts for 92 percent.
It has been proposed to develop and approve a feasibility study (feasibility study) of the project until April 2021, and to begin the implementation of the project based on GMP (Good manufacturing practice) requirements and construction and installation work in June 2021.
In addition, the Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V was delivered to Uzbekistan on December 4. Samples have been submitted for testing required for registration and launch of industrial vaccine production in the country.
