Iran boosts agricultural exports

Iran's agricultural exports increased by 20 percent in terms of value and 22 percent in terms of volume during the first 9 months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through December 20, 2020), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Zorar Permeh said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Permeh noted that Iran exported 6.1 million tons of agricultural products worth about $5 billion within 9 months.

"While in the same period last Iranian year, Iran exported 4.98 million tons of agricultural products worth $4.07 billion," he added.

The deputy minister emphasized that Iran exported 889,000 tons of horticultural products worth $2.28 billion over the nine months. The exports of horticultural products increased by 43 percent in terms of value and 38 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Permeh said that however, 625,000 tons of horticultural products worth about $1.6 billion were exported in the same period last Iranian year.

According to him, the largest increase in 9 months was recorded in the export of pistachios. Thus, 143,000 tons of pistachios worth about $1.06 billion were exported during the reporting period. The pistachio exports increased by 77 percent in terms of value and 104 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"In 9 month, $764 million worth of apples, $179 million worth of dates, $50 million worth of kiwifruit and $60 million worth of raisins were exported," he said.
