The demand rises for Georgian blueberry on the world market, Trend reports via Georgian media.
According to the information provided by the company of blueberries, Efco, rising demand for the product will be reflected on prices, and in terms of the pandemic, the price of 1 kg Georgian blueberries increased by $1.
Efco, which bought the assets of Vanrik Agro at an auction held by Partnership Fund for 12.34 million lari ($3.7 million) in 2020, is currently selling its products mainly in neighboring countries. However, the company prepares to adapt to both the EU and the Gulf countries.
"In order to improve the quality of production, we are introducing a new processing system in 2021. We already completed the cultivation of the garden of 4 hectares and in total, the plantation now involves 36 hectares. This process continues and we will probably cover additional 70 hectares this year," noted the manager of the project, Rati Morchiladze.
According to Efco, the price of 1 kg Georgian blueberry on the international market was approximately $4-4.5. In 2020, this amount reached $5.5-6. The increase in price is determined by two reasons.
On the one hand, it has a different taste and on the other hand, Georgia is in the so-called "window", when other large producers do not pick blueberries.
