Iran's agricultural exports far exceed imports

The exports of Iran's agricultural products exceeded imports by 20 times in terms of volume and value during the 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through February 18, 2021), Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi told IRNA, Trend reports.

The spokesman emphasized that Iran exported 7.88 million tons of agricultural products worth $5.52 billion within 11 months. However, Iran's agricultural imports amounted to 380,000 tons worth $267 million over the reporting.

Latifi added that Iran imported 345,000 tons of bananas worth $234 million in 11 months. While in the same period last Iranian, this figure was 421,000 tons worth $284 million.

"In addition, Iran imported 2,180 tons of coconut worth $1.39 million during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year. This is a decrease of 51 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. So, 4,440 tons of coconut worth $2.73 were imported to Iran in the same period last Iranian year, he said.

The official noted that at the same time, 4,690 tons of pineapples worth $4 million were imported to Iran in 11 months. However, Iran imported 6,750 tons of pineapples worth $6.1 million in the same period last Iranian year. The imports of pineapples decreased by 30 percent compared to same period last Iranian year.

Latifi said that Iran also imported 22,700 tons of mango worth about $17 million over the 11 months. This is a decrease of 35 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. So, 26,000 tons of mango worth $26 million were imported to Iran in the same period last Iranian year.
