Iran’s NICICO expands copper reserves

The copper reserves of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) have increased by about 1 billion tons since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020), Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran and the Managing Director of the company, Ardashir Sad Mohammadi said, Trend reports referring to the company’s website.

Sad Mohammadi emphasized that about 100,000 meters of excavations have been carried out in the current year for exploration. This is an increase of 50 percent compared to last Iranian year.

The deputy minister added that 730 million tons of 48-percent copper were added to the reserves of the Seridune mine in the Kerman Province (southeastern Iran).

“In addition, 265 million tons of copper were added to the reserves of the Sungun copper mine in the East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran),” he said.

The director noted that it is hoped that more than 200,000 meters of excavations will be carried out and new copper reserves will be explored in Iran next Iranian year (from March 21, 2021, through March 20, 2022).

According to Sad Mohammadi, certain operations will be carried out in Razavi Khorasan, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Yazd, and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces to explore new reserves.
