Iran discloses details of its exports to Iraq via Mehran border checkpoint

Iran exported more than 280,000 tons of goods worth $124 million to Iraq through the Mehran border checkpoint in the Ilam Province (western Iran) in the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through May 21, 2021), Director General of Ilam Province Customs Office Rouhollah Gholami told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to him, the exported goods through the border checkpoint were mainly construction materials, fruits and vegetables, rubber products, industrial products, household appliances and metal products.

Gholami added that due to the coronavirus pandemic, commercial activities are carried out on the basis of health protocols. Every working day, 380-450 trucks pass through Mehran border checkpoint.

“A total of 1.06 million tons of goods worth $553 million were exported to Iraq through the Mehran border checkpoint over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). The main exported goods were ceramics, rubber, vegetables, iron ore and petrochemicals,” he said.

The director general stressed that moreover, 125,000 tons of agricultural products worth $55.6 million were exported through this border checkpoint last Iranian year.

Gholami noted that at the same time, 1,720 tons of goods were transited to Iraq through the Mehran border checkpoint.
