The exports through the Astara border checkpoint in the Gilan Province (northern Iran) increased by 30 percent in terms of value and 21 percent in terms of volume during the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through May 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Astara Customs Office, Karim Rasouli told IRNA, Trend reports.
The director-general noted that 187,000 tons of non-oil products worth $90 million were exported through the Astara border checkpoint within two months.
He added that the exported goods were agricultural, chemical, mining and metal, food, rubber products, cement, gypsum, detergents, fabrics, carpets, footwear, and so on.
Rasouli said that in addition, 32,800 tons of goods worth $16.5 million were imported through the Astara border checkpoint over the two months. The imports decreased by 60 percent in terms of value and 29 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year. The imported products were wood materials, grain, and so on.
“Moreover, 27,800 tons of goods worth $159 million were transited through the border checkpoint during the reporting period. The transited goods were mainly wood materials, oil products, cotton, artificial fibers, iron ingots, copper, electrical equipment, cars, medical equipment, construction materials, agricultural and chemical products, and clothing,” he said.
According to the director-general, the revenues of customs amounted to 5.42 billion rials (about $129,000) in two months.
As reported, Iran's Astara border checkpoint is located on the border with Azerbaijan.
