By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Recently, the global demand for berries, including blueberries, is growing and the export of this product from Georgia is also growing, said the Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Levana Davitashvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.
“In 2020, the export of fruits and berries played an important role in the growth of total exports, and a large share in this growth belongs, among other things, to blueberries, the export of which increased to $3 million. The export indicator of these berries will constantly grow, taking into account the fact that the demand is increasing, and with it the plantations on the territory of Georgia,” said Davitashvili.
According to him, the government program "Plant the Future" plays an important role in the development of blueberry production, within the framework of which 450 hectares of land were sown with berries in only one region of Guria.
Within the framework of the program, the government financed the creation of blueberry orchards in Guria in the amount of 6 million lari ($1.8 million).
