TEHRAN, Iran, June 9

Trend:

Iranian Minister of Oil announced that the gas export has doubled in the last 8 years, but if we want to have more gas exports, we have no choice but to optimize consumption.

Iran now needs over $ 50 billion of investment to maintain South Pars gas fields production trend, Bijan Zanganeh said in a public session of the Parliament today, Trend reports citing SHANA.

Zanganeh stressed that gas exports are also a kind of crude sales and the preference in consuming gas is to convert it to petrochemical feedstock.

"Gas exports are not only related to the Ministry of Oil and have different political dimensions which must be considered together," he said.

He stressed the need for optimal energy consumption in power plants.

"If power plants increase their thermal efficiency, with the gas provided to them, they can easily produce 1.5 times more electricity," he noted adding that there is no need for more gas to produce more electricity.

He criticized the low price of gas provided to the power plants.
