By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In April 2021, the employment rate in private companies increased by 9 percent compared to 2019 in Georgia, said Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.

"Up to 60,000 companies have benefited from our business support programs. The number of people employed in these companies in April 2019 was 575,000. There was a decrease during the pandemic, and in April 2020, this number decreased to 530,000. In April 2021, the number increased to 627,000 people. Therefore, we have a further increase of 9 percent even after the COVID-19 pandemic," Khutsishvili said.

Khutsishvili talked about the impact of the global pandemic on the country's budget.

"Economic decline has affected budget revenues. Health care costs have increased. We have made significant interventions to support businesses, with the aim of maintaining the viability of companies and, even with reduced turnover, lead them to a period of post-pandemic, economic recovery, so that they could easily rebuild their full potential" Khutsishvili said.

According to him, one of the main challenges was to put in place a proper and effective social protection system, which was achieved through the development of social programs.
