Iran's copper production grows

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28

The copper cathode production of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) increased by 9.5 percent during the first three months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2021), the Managing Director of the company, Ardashir Sad Mohammadi said, Trend reports referring to the company’s website.

The director emphasized that 75,600 tons of copper cathode were produced in Iran over the reporting period.

Sad Mohammadi added that also, about 95,000 tons of copper anode were produced in Iran within the three months, which is an increase of 3.5 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

According to him, moreover, the company produced 52,400 tons of raw copper in two months. This is an increase of 5 percent, compared to the production plan.

“Furthermore, the production of copper concentrate also increased by 4 percent in the first 3 months of the current Iranian year, compared to the same period last Iranian year and amounted to 323,000 tons,” he said.

Sad Mohammadi noted that crude copper production in Iran amounted to 78,700 tons within the mentioned period, which is 5 percent more than planned.

The director said that a total of 52.6 million tons of copper were extracted from mines in the three months. This is an increase of 25 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

In addition, the company's plants produced 216,000 tons of sulfuric acid during the 3 months. This is an increase of 3.6 times compared to the same period last Iranian year, he noted.
