Iran is among the top 10 countries in the world for the growing of 25 types of horticultural products, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Mohammad Mehdi Borumandi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
So, Iran ranks 1st in the world for the growing of saffron, Damascus rose, barberry, 2nd for the growing of pistachios, 3rd for the growing of apple, walnuts, cherry, almonds raisins, pomegranate, green cumin, dates and apricot, Borumandi said.
The deputy minister added that about 18 percent of Iran's arable land, 20 percent of production, and 50 percent of annual exports (about $3.2 billion) are accounted for Iranian horticultural products.
According to him, the area of horticultural products in Iran is 3 million hectares and 24 million tons of horticultural products are grown annually.
Borumandi noted that Iran's exports of horticultural products increased by 22 percent in terms of value and 97 percent in terms of volume in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
As reported, Iran exported 8.8 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $6.5 billion in the last Iranian Iran's exports increased by 14 percent in terms of value and 26 percent in terms of volume compared to the preceding Iranian year.
