Baikal aircraft manufacturing to be launched in Kazakhstan

The manufacturing of Baikal aircraft will be launched in Kazakhstan, Trend reports citing Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

Thus, the corresponding agreement was signed between the Kazakhstan Aviation Industry LLP and Ural Works of Civil Aviation JSC. The agreement oversees the development of the Baikal aircraft currently being overseen by Ural Works of Civil Aviation JSC. The aircraft is to replace the AN-2 plane, which has been in operation for over 50 years now.

The value of Kazakhstan’s investments into the project will be 1 billion rubles ($13.5 million). In return, Kazakhstan will receive a minority stake in the project and a license to manufacture these aircraft.

The project provides for production of aircraft of the Baikal type on the basis of the Kazakhstan Aviation Industry starting 2024, while the estimated production capacity is 30-50 aircraft per year. The Kazakh enterprise will produce Baikal aircraft with a permit to export it to third countries. The parties look to export produced aircrafts to Eastern Europe and Africa.
