Iran sees increase in imports

Iran's imports increased by 29 percent in terms of value and 41 percent in terms of volume during the 4th month of the current Iranian year (June 22 through July 22, 2021), compared to the same month last Iranian year, Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

The spokesman stressed that Iran imported a total of 4.09 million tons of goods worth $4.36 billion during the reporting month.

He added that Iran imported 1.55 million tons of goods worth $1.51 billion from the UAE in the fourth month. This is an increase of 90 percent in terms of value and 371 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

Latifi said that Iran also imported 333,000 tons of goods worth $1.09 billion from China within the mentioned month. The imports increased by 23 percent in terms of value and 14 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

According to him, Iran's imports from Turkey in the fourth month amounted to 428,000 tons worth $487 million, which is an increase of 30 percent in terms of value and 26 percent in terms of volume compared to the same month last Iranian year.

The official noted that Iran imported 112,000 tons of goods worth $149 million from Germany in the 4th month. This is a 4-percent decrease in terms of value and a 28-percent increase in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

“Also, Iran imported 200,000 tons of goods worth $155 million from Switzerland over the fourth month. The imports increased by 278 percent in terms of value and 100 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year,” he said.

Latifi emphasized that in total, Iran's trade turnover in the 4th month of the current Iranian year amounted to 12.4 million tons worth $8 billion. The trade turnover increased by 39 percent in terms of value and 10 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"Within the 4th month, transit through Iran increased by 48 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. So, 1.01 million tons of goods were transited during the reporting month. While in the same month last Iranian year, 682,000 tons of goods were transited through Iran," he added.
