By Fakhri Vakilov-Trend:

Uzbekistan’s Agency of Plant Quarantine and Protection and China’s General Administration of Custom signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements and control over the export of lemons from Uzbekistan to China, Trend reports citing the Agency of Plant Quarantine and Protection.

The document stipulates that Uzbek lemons will be exported to China in accordance with the rules of the World Trade Organization, the International Plant Protection Convention, as well as China’s legislation on food safety. The exported product should not contain quarantine objects that are considered dangerous for the Chinese side. For example, these include various pests.

In addition, enterprises that will export lemons to China must fulfill a number of requirements: registration with Uzbek and Chinese quarantine services; lemon greenhouses must be constantly monitored by the Agency of Plant Quarantine and Protection; lemons must undergo special processing in order to prevent pests; packaging materials must meet the necessary sanitary requirements

Moreover, each box must contain information in English - the name of the fruit, the place of cultivation, the name of the garden, greenhouse and packaging company or registration number, as well as the words "Export to the People's Republic of China".

Failure to comply with the established requirements may lead to the return or destruction of goods from Chinese border checkpoints, which will lead to restriction of access to the Chinese market.
