By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Central Asia Metals plc (CAML), which operates copper mine in Kazakhstan and North Macedonia, continues research into possibility of constructing solar power plant at its Kazakhstan-based mine, Trend reports citing the company.

The company said that the solar power plant scoping study that was undertaken during 2020 is currently being upgraded to a full feasibility study and discussions with regulators to ascertain the appropriate courses of action will be undertaken during 2H2021. Further details will be provided in the future.

"As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have been assessing opportunities to reduce our GHG emissions, with several workstreams underway, and we recently secured solely renewable power for our Sasa operations from H2 2021 onwards. Having completed a scoping study for the Kounrad solar plant last year, we are currently in the process of upgrading this to a full feasibility study, which will offer a clearer view on the most effective way of reducing our GHG emissions at the project,” the company said.

Central Asia Metals is a diversified company that operates low-cost mineral assets, producing the base metals that are essential for modern living, safely and sustainably for all of our stakeholders.

To complement its Kounrad copper operation in Kazakhstan, the company added the Sasa zinc and lead mine in North Macedonia to its portfolio in 2017.
