BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 17

By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:

Uzbekistan sold 122,400 new cars from January through August 2021, including 6,200 foreign cars, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s Center for Economic Research and Reforms.

During this period, the largest number of sales of new passenger cars was recorded in Tashkent – 3,000, including 652 cars produced abroad, as well as Tashkent – 1,200 (73 foreign cars), Samarkand - 846 cars (48 foreign cars) and Bukhara - 772 cars (37 foreign cars) areas.

In August, the number of car purchase and sale transactions in the country has grown significantly. In comparison with July, the growth was 21.4 percent. However, in comparison with August 2020, the demand in the domestic car market showed a decrease of 8.6 percent, which is explained by a number of reasons, in particular, the formed deferred demand after the lockdown introduced in July last year.

Despite a significant increase in August, sales in the car market did not reach the pre-quarantine level. Thus, compared to August 2019, car sales slightly decreased by 5.1 percent. First of all, the global shortage of microchips caused by the coronavirus pandemic continues to put pressure on the activity in the domestic car market, which increases the delivery time.

If sales of new cars in August (12,100) decreased by 34.9 percent compared to the previous month (18,500), then car sales in the secondary market in August (45,300) increased by 57.6 percent.

By region, the highest sales growth rates were observed in Tashkent (97.2 percent), Kashkadarya (36.2 percent), Fergana (20.4 percent), Navoi (27.7 percent), Andijan (12 percent) and Surkhandarya (2 .9 percent), as well as in Karakalpakstan (3.8 percent) regions.
