Iran reveals plans for local auto market

TEHRAN, Iran, Sept.17

Trend:

Iranian government's plan for the auto market is to maintain current prices and hopefully, to reduce tensions in the market, auto market expert Rasoul Soleimani said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Soleimani indicated that the plan aims to create pressure on the rising foreign currency rate without overshadowing domestic production and prepare the possibility of importing vehicles.

He noted the price of foreign brand cars is 4 times more than their real price, while prices on second hand foreign vehicles is 9 times more expensive in Iran than their real price.

Part of the government plan is to scrap used and old cars in return of importing new vehicles so that domestic production would not suffer.

Iranian government banned the import of foreign vehicles since 2018, following the re-impose of US sanctions and foreign currency supply shortage.
