Uzbekistan and Russia are launching the Agroexpress project aimed at regular and quick delivery of agricultural products in refrigerated trains along the Tashkent-Moscow route, Trend reports referring to the Russian Ministry of Economic Development.

The progress of the project, as well as monitoring the implementation of the decisions of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the intensification of interregional cooperation were discussed during the working trip of the Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov and his deputy Dmitry Volvach to Uzbekistan. Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held a meeting with representatives of the Russian side.

“We see the positive dynamics of mutual trade again. Despite the pandemic, bilateral trade with Uzbekistan increased by 15.6 percent in 2020 which demonstrates the effectiveness of business contacts. For 7 months of this year, we record an increase of 3.8 percent over the same period last year. We hope that the positive dynamics of mutual trade will continue until the end of this year,” said Reshetnikov following the meeting.

Reshetnikov stated that the preparation of the Agroexpress project is at the final stage. Procedures have been developed for seamless and fast transport of goods, as well as special tariff conditions for rail transportation. It is planned that the first pilot supply of fresh fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan to Russia will take place in November, and Agroexpress will start operating on a permanent basis in December.

Products of the local agro-industrial complex will be delivered from Russia to Uzbekistan by the same trains.
