Iran shares estimates on pistachio harvesting

The volume of pistachios to be harvested in Iran is estimated to decrease by about 21 percent in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Darab Hassani said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Hassani, about 281,000 tons of pistachios are expected to be harvested this year. Meanwhile, in the last Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), a total of 358,000 tons of pistachios were harvested.

The official added that pistachios harvesting in Iran’s in Kerman, Razavi Khorasan, Yazd, South Khorasan, Tehran, North Khorasan, East Azerbaijan, Lorestan, West Azerbaijan provinces has decreased, while in Fars, Semnan, Markazi, Qom, Sistan and Baluchestan, Isfahan, Qazvin, Alborz and Ardabil provinces have increased.

"In addition, Iran exported 80,000 tons of pistachios worth $533 million, during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2021)," he said.

Meanwhile, in the last Iranian year, Iran's pistachio exports amounted to 203,000 tons worth $1.37 billion, Hassani noted.

The official stressed that Iran has more than 500,000 hectares of pistachio orchards.
