Turkmenistan shares data on greenhouse tomato exports

Turkmen agricultural producers exported over 51,300 tons of greenhouse tomatoes worth more than $56 million in the first 11 months of 2021, Trend reports via the Turkmenistan’s Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

Turkmen tomatoes are mostly exported to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Turkmenistan became the fourth among the suppliers of tomatoes to Russia. Farmers supplied more than 32,000 tons of this vegetable to Moscow and the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg and the Ural regions in January through November 2021.

Turkmenistan exported 36,400 tons of vegetables to the world markets in 2019, while this figure rose to 44,600 tons in 2020. Tomatoes make up the majority of the supplies.

The total area of greenhouses owned by UIET members is 530,54 hectares. The entrepreneurs intended to cultivate tomatoes on 500 hectares in 2021-2022, from which they anticipated, to harvest 85,000 tons of product.

The vast majority of the produce is destined for export.
