Iran bought a total of 58,000 tons of apples worth over $16.2 million from local farmers as part of the government’s guaranteed purchase plan during the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2021), said head of the commercial department of the Central organization for rural cooperatives (CORC) of Iran Saeed Omid, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.
As of September, the purchases of apples started in the provinces of West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Hamedan, Fars and Isfahan, Omid said.
"At the request of these 6 provinces and the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, the deadline for guaranteed purchase of apples was extended until November 11,” he said.
So far, the farmer demands from five provinces have been partially met.
