Iran records increase in exports to Syria

Iran's exports to Syria increased by about 90 percent, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Iranian Co-Chair of the Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce, Keyvan Kashefi said, Trend reports citing Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines & Agriculture’s website.

The chairman noted that Iran has exported $160 million worth of goods to Syria within the mentioned period. Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure amounted to $84 million.

“The main exported goods from Iran to Syria were steam turbines and related spare parts, foodstuff, and medicine,” he added.

Kashefi stressed that Syria ranked 21st among Iran's export destinations, within the mentioned 9 months.

“Furthermore, Iran imported $22.9 million worth of goods from Syria over nine months, which is an increase of 53 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at $15 million,” he said.

According to Kashefi, Iran mainly imports phosphate from Syria. The country ranks 49th among Iran's import destinations for nine months.

Iran's total exports for the first 9 months of the current Iranian year amounted to 92.3 million tons worth $35.1 billion. The exports increased by 40 percent in value and 8 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Within nine months, Iran imported 30.1 million tons of goods worth $37 billion. Imports increased by 37 percent in value and 20 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
