BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12

By Amina Nazarli - Trend:

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to prepare the national program for the transformation of the social and living conditions of the population of villages, towns, cities, and regions for up to 2027, Trend reports citing Turkmenportal.

He made the remark during the expanded government meeting as part of an extraordinary meeting of the People's Council (Halk Maslakhaty) on February 11.

“The regional development strategy is an important component of the sustainable development of any state. It addresses such important issues as the natural resource potential of the territories and its reproduction, demography and employment of the population, as well as the level and quality of life,” Berdimuhamedov stated.

The president directed to expand the production of food products, improve the supply of food to the domestic market in light of the global economic situation, and ensure food abundance.

During those years, measures should be taken to improve agricultural efficiency, increase crop yields and develop seed production, complete the preparation of the land cadastre, prepare methodological manuals for growing various crops, and expand the area under cultivation of vegetable crops.

Furthermore, appropriate work should be done to develop animal husbandry, increase livestock numbers, and ensure the development of poultry, meat, and dairy production in the country.

The importance of involving private producers in the industry was also emphasized during the meeting.

The program also stipulates constructing new reservoirs, as well as utilizing modern water-saving technologies and best world practices for crop irrigation.

Agriculture is one of Turkmenistan's most important economic sectors. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beets, fodder, vegetables, melons, fruit, and berry crops are the main types of agricultural crops grown in the country.

Turkmenistan is using foreign equipment in its agricultural sector, and in particular, the equipment provided by US companies such as John Deere Walldorf GmbH & Co.KG and Claas.

The state provides targeted support for the development of the agricultural sector in Turkmenistan. In particular, the entire production infrastructure of the agro-industrial sector is being re-equipped and modernized, the chemical industry is developing, and modern tractors, combines, and other equipments are being purchased.
